THE BEST WAYS TO “ADULT” ON A DISNEY CRUISE

Going on a Disney Cruise? No kids? Just the girls? Newlywed couple or retired? Here is my list of ways to enjoy “adulting” on your next Disney cruise.

1.Take a few minutes to get to know your ship. I really wish I would have done that (especially as it related to the location of my cabin)…Disney ships vary from ship to ship, but all of them are so well organized and have spots that are for adults only. There are exclusive dining, entertaining and activities in kid free zones all over the ship.

2. No matter what kind of bar you enjoy, Disney got you covered. Live music, themed bars and dancing are available in the adults only section of the ship.

3. Take a tasting class. You can sign up (for an upcharge) for wine and beer tastings, cocktail mixology classes or other free activities like bingo, trivia, crafty and cooking classes. Check out your daily newsletter (called The Navigator) to see which ones are specifically kid free each day.

4. Run (or walk) a 5K on Castaway Cay… if you are fortunate enough to stop at Disney’s private island, consider getting up a bit earlier and running in the 5K to get your day started.

5. Speaking of Castaway Cay, there is an all adult area called Serenity Bay that includes a gorgeous beach with chairs and umbrellas that is included with your cruise. You can also enjoy lunch on the island (at no extra cost) in the adult area with a bit of a different menu than the rest of the island.

6. Room service. Order up complimentary coffee for each morning to get your day started or dive into a full breakfast and eat it on the verandah if you are fortunate enough to have one. Protip: room service is 24 hours and no extra cost.

7. Take aboard alcohol. Each person over 21 is allowed to take two (2) bottles of wine each or a 6 pack of beer. No liquor. This MUST be packed in your luggage. You cannot walk it on. And yes, they do check to see what kind of alcohol it is. Also, if you would like to take your favorite bottle of wine to dinner, there is a $25 corking fee, but they will be happy to do it for you.

8. Make sure you are seated in the 2nd seating for dinner. Disney cruises offer two seating options for dinner. One starts at around 6pm and the other at around 8-8:15PM. Obviously, most families with small children will want the earlier option, so if you are looking to enjoy a leisurely dinner with a cocktail or two, opt for the second. Also, take a look at all of the activities on the ship and if something looks interesting, try finding it during the first dinner time to help your chances of being able to get in. Onboard activities fill up fast!

9. Celebrating something special or just want a fine dining experience on board? Try the adult only restaurants, Remy and Palo. For an additional cost, you can experience luxury fine dining. Remy is French cuisine and Palo is Italian. Both offer stunning views, awesome food and wonderful service. Protip– no matter what you order for your entree, choose one of their souffle’s for dessert. It was absolutely the best dessert I had on the ship.

10. Adult only pools. Wade pools, hot tubs or the swim up bar in Quiet Cove are available and totally kid free.

11. Take in a late night movie. Movies play after 10:30PM on most nights when the kids are tucked in for the night. Taking advantage of the ship in the late evening when it’s less crowded is great for picture taking, just taking a stroll on the deck or exploring the ship.

12. Fireworks. Normally on the pirate themed night, there is a fireworks show. On our trip, it was delayed by a day because of weather but we still got to enjoy it!

13. Hit the gym. I didn’t … but there is one on board with stunning views.

14. There are tons of other things to do for an upcharge. Spa days, all adult excursions off the ship, specialty coffee and dessert shops and shopping on and off the ship.

The awesome part about a Disney cruise is making it your own. Whether you want a more budget friendly trip and only choose activities that are included or splurge on some of those bucket list items, you will have so many options and be ready to book your next trip before you get off the ship.
