THE SWEETER SIDE – POST 03 | BIBLE READING CHALLENGE + PRINTABLE

Whoa… my 49th year is flying by! One of my “50 before 50” goals is to read the entire Bible through during this year. I’ve probably read the Bible in it’s entirety several times in my life, but never in one year. I’ve done studies, taken classes, but I’ve never managed to read the Bible cover to cover in one year. I’ve started several times, but have always managed to get sidetracked and never finished. So, this is my year!

Reading the Bible isn’t the easiest task. I’m sure there are people who can spend hours and never have their minds wander, but that definitely isn’t me! Can I say it? Some scripture I find to be boring. Who wants to hang out and read excerpts from Exodus when there is poetry like Psalms to read?

One of the ways I am finally being successful with this challenge is NOT to have a date-based plan. I found a Yearly Bible Reading Plan that does not have dates and is split into weeks (1-52). That helps me to not get discouraged when I fall a few days behind.

Next, I doodle. I love to journal as I go. I know there are varying opinions out there about writing in the Bible, but it is a wonderful way for me to meditate on a particular verse and keep me interested as I read. I also have a Spiritual Planner that I use to write prayer requests, favorite scriptures, etc. It helps keep me engaged in what I am reading.

And, lastly, I like to look for something I have never seen before! I think for people who have read a lot of the Bible, it can seem like “old hat” at times. Kinda a been-there-done-that mentality. Even at 49, I know I’m a spiritual work in progress. I like that about me. I like that I’m not so old that I think I’ve got God all figured out.

What’s next? Reading my Bible in historical chronological order – maybe that’s for year 50 🙂

Until Next Time!
