MY TOP HACKS FOR EASY HOLIDAY STORAGE

‘Tis the season to get organized! Putting away those Christmas goodies is just as important as getting them out…

Here are my top CHEAP hacks for holiday storage…

  1. Plastic ziploc bags— I never put decorations loose in a tote and/or box. Always put “like” items together for easy placement next year.

2. Oh, the things that can be done with toilet paper rolls… I always corral my gift wrap by cutting my old roll in half and using it as a way to keep my wrap in tact.

3. Wrapping cords, lights and large rolls of ribbon with toilet paper rolls and rubber bands helps keep them from taking over. Another hint… I always store my extension cords WITH my tree. I have the cords and surge protector put away every year so I don’t have to go pillaging around the house looking for an extra strip cord when the holidays arrive.

4. Old pantyhose and trouser socks make an awesome preserver of your decorative taper candles and other candle delicates. I hate getting out my candles from the year before and having nicks all over them. Boom, another problem solved.

5. I have ornaments that aren’t breakable, but are fragile. I use coffee filters to separate ornaments from each other. Obviously, storing them in their original packaging would be awesome too.

6. Egg cartons- they house all kinds of little tree jewelry, beads and crystals.

7. Fairy lights are terrible to try and store. I always wrap mine around a paper towel tube and put binder clips on each end to keep them in place. It makes for an easy unravel on the next use.

8. Wreath storage can be bulky. My best solution? Hang them up with an old coat hanger and cover in plastic to protect from the dust that is bound to happen with those flocked wreaths.

Some other things I do? Always store those oversized ornaments (non breakable) in the bottom of your totes, label label label everything and one of my best recommendations is to TAKE A PICTURE of your decor, print it out and throw it on top of the tote. It has saved me so many times!

Last, but not least, don’t use newspapers to wrap your items. It transfers, especially when the temperature changes. Save up your tissue and in a pinch, I use a roll of paper towels to wrap my breakables.

WHAT I SPLURGE ON… TOTES

I get good quality, clear totes with a snap lid and handles… something like this…. I bought these at Target (on sale, of course).
