OCTOBER 2017 ROUND UP + FAVORITES

October was full of favorites! It was great to see the weather cooling down to a bearable 75 degrees or so. But, even though we are barely through Halloween, I’ve already got my mind in the Christmas zone. So, bonus! Click this link for a Christmas Gift List Printable.

 1. The Netflix documentary, “Minimalism” that I have already watched a few times. It is about parring down in our lives to what really matters. I’m not ready to have a micro house or anything, but I do love the concept of using what we have, editing out what we don’t need and getting the clutter out of our lives. I am so much more productive when I do not have chaos around me. I am definitely a person who enjoys some order in my life and this film helped remind me of that. So, in the month of November, I am participating in the 30 day challenge to throw away, give away, recycle and upcycle something that matches the date. So, November 1, I throw away 1 thing. November 2nd, 2 things and so on through the month.  Seems easy enough, right?… I think I’m going to have some major deep cleaning going on by the time I get to the 20th of the month!

2. “Stranger Things 2” dropped October 27th and I couldn’t be any happier. I fell in love with this show last season (along with everyone else in America) and it hasn’t disappointed. Kickin’ it back to the 80’s is so fun. Throw in some great little actors and a little suspense and it’s a win for me.

3. I’m loving my new favorite lightweight long sleeved shirt. It’s part sweater, part shirt that looks great oversized. It’s perfect for layering. It bunches up at the sleeve and has a wide boat neck. It comes in several colors and costs less than $15 from Amazon, so stock up! I got mine in an x-large. Click here to shop.

4.  My latest drug store find is the Walmart only brand, Kokie. Their mascara is top notch and I’m carrying it in my purse everyday! True, it’s not going to replace some of my high end mascaras, but it’s fantastic for lengthening and I especially love it for my bottom lashes. You can purchase it here.

5. My book of the month is Reese Witherspoon’s October Book Club pick-The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. Thrilling and exquisite, real and fantastical, The Rules of Magic is a story about the power of love reminding us that the only remedy for being human is to be true to yourself.

6. My Inspo Woman of the Month? Julia Child. I love to find women who were “late bloomers” and I had no idea that Julia Child was one of them! Didn’t learn to cook until her mid thirties? What? I LOVE IT! Check out an excerpt of this article below from the website, “My Domain” written by Sacha Strebe.

… It’s hard to believe that one of America’s most iconic TV chefs and authors didn’t even learn to cook until she was 36 years old. In fact, Child originally had plans to be a novelist and reportedly wrote plays and short stories, which she submitted to The New Yorker but were never published. After moving to France in 1948, she adopted the country’s sophisticated cuisine and altered it to the American palate for her book Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Her world-famous cookbook was a best seller for the next five years. At 40 years old, Child became a TV icon on the TV show The French Chef, which aired on WGBH and was then syndicated to 96 stations… For the complete article of late-bloomer women, click here.

I’m always looking for a reason to celebrate and Oktoberfest was the best this year!! You don’t need Lederhosen in your wardrobe to enjoy this event. There were so many places celebrating with great traditions, fantastic food and awesome beer. Even if you don’t live in Houston, find one in your city and put it on your list for next year! If you have never been, it will surprise you!

 Until Next Time!
